Learn jewelry making and metalsmithing from an award winning artist, Catherine Goolsby. With over 10 years of professional and teaching experience, Catherine has taught many students, most who have never used metalsmithing tools and some who have never taken an art class. She will take you step-by-step through the process of learning metalsmithing techniques, using the tools and torch as well as how to design unique art pieces. Classes are located in the E. Beginning Jewelry and Metalsmithing
Learn the basics of jewelry design and fabrication. Appropriate for repeat students; projects change each quarter. Projects will include some of the following techniques: piercing (cutting), shaping, soldering, texturing, finishing (polishing) and stone setting. Individual attention will encourage the development of personal style and emphasize the production of high quality, wearable art or small sculptural pieces. Projects range from rings, bracelets, pendants, earrings, lockets, vessels and broaches. Teens are welcome. Safety and materials will be discussed in the first class; copper/brass metal and stones for projects could cost approx. $20-40 (silver could cost more). No prerequisite for beginners. Min. 3, max. 6. Class will meet 630-930 pm, Tuesday evenings for 6 weeks. Email Catherine for dates. Class costs $210+materials.
Teen metalsmithing class, June 26-30: Pierced Pendant
Join this exciting weeklong course to learn some of the basics of jewelry making and metalsmithing. Take home a pierced pendant uniquely designed by you with assistance from Cat. Students will learn many skills including: piercing, filing, soldering, sanding and oxidizing. Appropriate for repeat students; projects change and can be made more challenging for more experienced students. Bring lunch/drink bottle with a top each day. Please wear closed toe shoes and long pants/skirt to cover legs. Safety is discussed in the first class. All metal, supplies, tools provided. No prerequisite. Ages 12-17. Min 3 students, max 6 in the class. Class meets each day, Monday-Friday from 10 am-230 pm, June 26-30. $235 fee includes class and all materials.
